2007 Summer Reading Program
In partnership with the Hamilton County and Northern Kentucky libraries, we once again provided bikes for the 3rd annual summer reading programs that ran June 1-July 31, 2007. To encourage the children to read books throughout the summer a contest was held for the kids to earn a chance to win a bike. Our Chapter donated 31 bikes and helmets. National City donated water bottles to go with each bike. CORT Furniture Rental and Peter Gregory Florist delivered the bikes to 27 Hamilton County Libraries and 4 Northern Kentucky Libraries.
2007 Birthday in a Box
The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Chapter of EWI held a late-summer program called "Birthday in a Box." Birthday in a Box provided women and children residing at Welcome House )Battered Women's Shelter in Covington, KY) with items for children's and audit birthday parties. The Birthday in a Box program enabled residents to celebrate birthdays and provided a means for the parent and child to make a birthday cake.
2007 EWI Reading Rally
The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Chapter held the annual Reading Rally on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Hays Elementary. Our Chapter was proud to partner with this inner-city school to encourage literacy and promote both reading and writing among its students. Each child made his/her own book and received a Reading Rally T-shirt and a new book to read.
